Green Paper

Conservation is a hot topic these days. So it’s no surprise that scrapbooking suppliers are finding new more environmentally friendly ways to create the gorgeous papers we love to use for our paper crafting.

One such company is Piggy Tales. This family owned company out of Las Vegas, Nevada has been in business since 2005. Though they’ve been using soy based inks for printing since the summer of 2007, this spring of 2008 look for the prints on 65 lb. acid & lignin free recycled paper. Not to worry, you can still expect vibrant colours, exciting prints, and matching embellishments. Piggy Tales products may be found at retailers throughout the U.S., Canada & Europe.

So what else can you do to stay green while papercrafting ? One thing is to save your paper scraps. Use recycled file folders to divide the papers into colour palettes. When you need a certain colour to use as a mat or accent, these small pieces are at your fingertips.

Look for the recycled logo on products. If your favourite company hasn’t gone green, write to them & encourage their participation.

One estimate shows that over 380,000 trees are used each year to create scrapbooking supplies and that each tree yields about 8,000 sheets of paper. Given these startling figures, it’s no wonder more companies are finding recycled alternatives to their products without compromising the quality scrapbookers need and want.
